What is Sex Steroids/Estrogens

In the male sex-steroid is secreted from the testes and

in the Female sex-steroids are secreted from ovaries.

These hormones have a steriod structure.The androgens

(testosterone from testes) have 19 carbon atoms.The

oestrogens (estradiol from ovaries) have 18 carbon atoms

and progesterone ( from corporalutea of the ovaries )

have 21 carbon atoms

Estrogens

These are the hormones which produce oestrus in

ovariectomized rats or mice the natural sources are

suprarenal cortex,placenta and even a few leydig cells of

the testis. Estriol (estriol is oxidized to estrone which

is in turn oxidized to oestriol in the body.
